Peppermint Friday Review #39: Wonder Woman

This review has been a long time coming, as I have been looking forward to watching this film and talking about it because oh wow. 

First of all I was abit nervous not gonna lie as DC in terms of films haven't done aswell as there TV side, and the fact that its the first time a woman led a superhero film since Catwoman which went down like a cup of cold sick, and I think after that people just went 'well noone like female superheroes' which is not the case at all. Its just that Catwoman was done so badly and people just assumed superhero films can only be successful by men which is totally ludicrous. Also the fact that its not only a superhero film being led by a woman but also, an action film being directed by a woman, for me its amazing and I'm so happy it been made. 

I love this film so so so much, oh god I fangirled pretty hard while watching this. The costumes are amazingly done its so beautiful and with such detail I love the fact that the costumes aren't ridiculously revealing but also not looking like a nun. It got Themyscira down to a T it looks so beautiful, I loved all of Diana's family aswell. Watching the film I never got a sense of it being rushed, or overdone it was just wonderful. I think fans of the character of Diana/Wonder Woman will be very impressed at what they've done to the film and the character. Gal Gadot was just amazing as Wonder Woman she gave the character a boost into the modern age at the same time remaining true to the character and what she represents.

Other characters of the film who I loved were Ares who is played by David Thewlis, and Antiope who was played by Robin Wright and they were just brilliant. One amazing thing about this film is that its the first of a big budget mainstream Wonder Woman film, so in terms of characters they can kinda reinvent a whole new character and not have the pressure of a big actor/actress towering over them, apart from Wonder Woman of course. The way they did Doctor Poison/Isabel Maru who is played by Elena Anaya was just brilliant her mouth was just weird and scary I loved it because again never really heard of her as a Villain before.

Steve Trevor who is played by Chris Pine was just fantastic, I loved the bit when he's on the boat back to England with Diana and explains what life is like on Earth and in England and the war, the whole dialogue between them is just brilliant to watch its just so funny and adorable the fact that she's this woman who doesn't know anything about men because Themyscira doesn't have any men so she's abit of an alien. The soundtrack to this is amazing aswell, particularly the song that Sia did for it, its amazing and speaks volume as to what Wonder Woman represents and is about. 

Rumour has it that they are making a sequel to this which I am excited about but also scared because I don't want it to turn into a cash cow, and make them for the sake of it and it being not very good. As a female and someone who loves film and more in particular superheros its so important and wonderful that females are represented not only in film but the behind the scenes aswell. Its such an amazing film with amazing characters that everyone should watch, I hope you all have a wonderful day/weekend and I'll see you next Friday. 

Films I'm Looking Forward To In 2017!

I didn't want to do a round up of all the films I've loved this year because I'm way too excited for the films coming out! and I'm sure these films will be on here.

Beauty & The Beast

I'm so excited for this film! I love Disney and Emma Watson, and Musicals so oh my god. I can't wait, I've seen some promotional pictures and the trailer for the film, the film already looks gorgeous. I cannot wait my excitement for this film is just out of this world, I love Beauty & The Beast anyway, but the musical is one of my favorites, and Belle ahhh.

Wonder Woman

Again, beyond excited Gal Gadot just looks amazing in this role. Its about time that film about Wonder Woman came out, because she is needed now more than ever. The costume of Wonder Woman is so brilliant and modern, the story of how Wonder Woman became Wonder Woman is abit different in this one. We're seeing a much more modern Wonder Woman already, I can't wait.

Dunkirk 

I'm ecstatic for this film, as its a story I've never seen told on this level before. I love period drama films, and disaster films already so this is right up my street. Plus it Chrisopher Nolan directed it and its gonna be good, I can feel it already. I don't know that much about the battle at Dunkirk, but I'm very excited about this film. I'm also interested to see Harry Styles's performance in the film, because I don't think I've seen him act before.  


Murder on the Orient Express

I only found out they were doing a film of this last week, but oh god I'm intrigued already. I mean its an Agatha Christie story with really good actors, like Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Daisy Ridley and Michelle Pfeiffer. Its gonna be interesting and enjoyable to watch, there are no production pictures at the moment but here's a gif from one of the first adaptations of the film.  

Spider-Man: Homecoming

If you read my favorite Comic Book Characters post then you will all know my love for the Human Spider. I'm so looking forward to seeing Tom Holland as Spider-Man, well he was in Captain America: Civil War but this is his first full film as Spider-Man. I can't wait as his Spider-Man looks so unique and different from any I've seen before. His costume is much more vibrant than it usually is, and its a different story of Spider-Man than we've seen before its Spider-Man when he meets Tony Stark, so I'm looking to that. 

The Dark Tower

I already love Stephen King, so a film on one of his books is just perfect. It also had Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba, so its gonna be good. I've also never read The Dark Tower series, so its already made me more excited. I'm not sure if they're gonna make one film or turn it into a film series like Harry Potter. But they're making the last book into a film, but hey they can do anything, but it looks amazing.

Favourite Comic Book Characters

So we're gonna talk about my favourite characters from Comicbooks, some are from DC Comics, and some are from Marvel. They're all either Villians, Superheros, Heroines and Sidekicks, but I like them for different reasons so lets begin.

Spider-man

I love Spider-man, as his origin story is brilliant, and relatable. He is one of the first Superheroes who is a teenager and we see that, he is the outcast as Peter Parker, who is a bit of a nerd, school photographer. Then he gets bit by a spider and turns into Spider-man! Although I do like that he started off with his powers being selfish, by just going 'oh I could make abit of money with this' but then he realises and I'm going to use to quote 'with great power comes great responsibility'. 

I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-man, as he just seems abit more cool and he is portrayed as the normal teenager, who skateboards and abit awkward. My first Spider-man I watched was Tobey Maguire, and at the time of a 6 or 7 year old I loved him, but now as someone who I'd like to say have watched a fair bit of films, I look back and I didn't like the actor of Tobey Maguire but I liked Spider-man, because he was just really cool and I loved his story, and the fact that it was portrayed by a not very good actor, didn't occur to me, but now I do care about who plays Spider-man.

Wonder Woman

I used to watch Wonder Woman as a kid when it was Justice League with Batman, Superman and various of DC Characters. She is a legend, I love her powers a particular favourite of mine because she can talk to animals, like that is so me. I love that she was everything I aspire to be, and still is I can't wait to see the new film next year! As I have the nostalgic image of Wonder Woman as a cartoon, I know thats bad. But I can't wait to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, I did watch Batman Vs Superman, and she had a brief appearance at the end, but this character needs a film. She's now an Ambassador for UN, and rightly so as she cares for everyone who isn't a Villian obviously. I even have her as my background on my phone!

She's knows what she wants, and goes for it I love her. I mean who doesn't? She's intelligent, sassy, but not all in your face about it. Her alter ego is amazing aswell, I think I like Diana Prince just as much as Wonder Woman herself. One thing that I adore with Wonder Woman is that she is a woman who is powerful but doesn't shove it in people's faces that she's a woman, she cares about the humanity of others, and animals.☺ Writing this post has actually made me wanna watch the Wonder Woman series with Lynda Carter, and watch the Justice League again.  

Batman

This is a weird one as I do love Batman but I don't, the reason I love him is that I love him as a Character, but I hate the fact that he doesn't really have superpowers, I feel like he's just a rich guy who wants to save the world, which I like because its a normal guy, well normal as such his alter-ego is Bruce Wayne who is a very intelligent man (as is Batman). But I mean Bruce Wayne has connections he's a top man. The one thing that's very nostaglic for me in Batman is obviously the Justice League when I was a young warthog. But also I used to watch on UKTVGOLD every morning before school with my dad was the 1960's Batman and Robin. 

Now the TV Show in the 60's was adorable to say the least, I mean it fitted so well in the 60s and I loved watching it before school. The dialogue was brilliant, despite it could have been seen as old-fashioned or whatever but I loved it, the show made me laugh, and enjoy it. Part of me misses Batman when he was like that, and didn't take himself seriously but another part of me loves that he's saving people and the whole of Gotham in a none cringey way if that makes sense. He doesn't dance anymore as far as I'm concerned, but it was amusing when he did.

The Joker

I know this post is majority of DC Characters, but this is the way its gone, I'm gonna be honest with you guys I wouldn't describe myself as a 'Comic Book kinda girl' if that makes sense, like I'm not a crazy fangirl but I love Heroes and Villians and all that, but I feel like its gonna be a new obsession of mine. Anyway, the Joker is one of if not the most iconic character in all of history, by each decade the Joker transforms and becomes more relevent to the film or the society we're in if that makes sense, even with the transformations he eludes he still remains the psychotic Villian of Batman. 

We all have favourite portrayals of the Joker, I love the 60s Joker played by Cesar Romero, I love Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, and Jared Leto. I don't think I have a favourite as it depends on what mood I'm in as again they're all completely different from each other but I love watching them. The Joker is a very complex character with a brilliant sense of humour, I do love the fact that he has a girlfriend, Harley Quinn who is just as psychotic as the Joker, as it makes him human because he feels love, but also he is so manipulative which is why he is so appealing. The amount of quotes this character has is amazing, and also he doesn't really have any powers which is terrifying as he is just an evil manipulative man who knows exactly how to push buttons and make devious plans.

I will no doubt do a number 2 of these as I have many more favourites as I waffle on and on and on. Bit of an update tomorrow I will be doing a film review as normal, but it won't be a new film not that thats a problem but it just costs money each week to go to the cinema. As I will be saving up for Christmas, and yes I will be doing a festive Christmas week this month just look forward to that!
