Peppermint Friday Review #45: Logan

This is another film that I just need to talk about that is Logan. I didn't watch it when it came out which I'm so annoyed with as its such a beautiful film and so well made. Its directed by James Mangold who wrote and directed Girl, Interrupted and the last Wolverine film and boy did he do a good bloody job.  

First of all one of the reasons I need to talk about this, is not because I'm a hugh fan of Hugh Jackman ( see what I did there ;) ) but also I love Wolverine and Marvel and you all know this by now, but I need to talk about this because its his last Wolverine film and I think we won't see Wolverine again for a long time as Hugh played him for almost 20 years. I also love the fact that its the same feeling as many got with the end of Harry Potter as its an end of an era, of such a monumental character. The story is honestly just a big road trip of Wolverine, Professor X and Laura/X-23 who is Logan/Wolverine's daughter with people trying to kill them. 

The film had so many emotional moments aswell as it being an action film, which I find to be so important, particularly with this one as its the last one the emotional and quite still moments have to be poignant of the film. Patrick Stewart was just wonderful as Professor X as per, he is just a legend in the film world he played older version of Professor X so wonderfully kinda like a really cool grandad, he was funny and whimsical but at the same time being totally badass. I loved his death scene I was just torn up and the fact throughout the film he is trying to help Logan and Logan just doesn't care and rebuffs him. It's a wonderful scene as it just makes things even more real for Logan as he kinda justs takes him for granted in a way and now he's like 'Oh wow he's right she IS my daughter' its so beautifully written and told. 

In the film the comedy was brilliantly done, it wasn't forced in anyway the scene where they're at the dinner table and talking about school which I only found out recently was improvised. which makes me so happy because it was brilliant. I'm also so so so impressed with Dafne Keen who played Laura/X23 she is one to watch out if she sticks with the acting I'm hoping they'll keep her for future X-Men films, and I have a feeling they'll go to X-23 for a few years. Just because strong females are in at the moment and I'm pretty sure people will need some time to move on from Wolverine and Hugh Jackman. Not to say he's not important its just we've seen him for so long and to suddenly to have some new guy it would be pretty fast, as we're all so attached to Wolverine. 

Also it would be refreshing, I'd like it if they kept her and her career could be like Hugh Jackman's but if they change it and decide to have her as a teenager or adult then its fine aslong as she's badass and is amazing. The death scene of Logan was again just simply beautiful he died in a way that's so like him and unlike him, he died whilst in action saving mutant kids and died with a loving daughter something that he never really had. Throughout the film aswell, Professor X keeps saying to him 'she's so much like you' 'she's yours' kinda thing and Logan doesn't care and rebuffs him, but in the end its just so tender and sweet. 

                                                                
Even if you're a huge fan of Wolverine or not you should see this film, although I do think you'd find it even more emotional if you're a long term fan, because of the importance of it. But I rekon you'd still find it very emotional and gripping to watch because of the way it was made and approached. 

Review: Spiderman: Homecoming

I know its been like a week or so since it came out but I need to talk about this film as I was just blown away. 

I have watched all the Spiderman films from Toby Maguire to Andrew Garfield, I love all of them in different ways and they were also Spidermen at different times of his life. Toby felt to me too be alittle be like a giant nerdy teenager who loved Mary Jane who was and is his one true love. Andrew Garfield was brilliant aswell and bought a different twist to the character, and became this moody teenager who skateboarded had Gwen, but the way they were directed felt abit too forced, looking back but at the time I just love it and still do not to mention that Andrew Garfield was about 26, 27 when he played Peter Parker/Spiderman. That's quite old, considering the fact that at the time, he's supposed to be a teenager, hence why he had such a short time being Spiderman. With Tom Holland who I love so much now, its amazing he is 20 and I think he could easily play Spiderman for atleast 10 years if he wants to (I think he should!). 

The way the film was written wasn't like the previous films either where it was shown as a typical Action Spiderman film. It was written and approached like a Teen film, which for me makes it really refreshing and gives it a new twist to the characters and the franchise. Everyone was worried that Iron Man would be in too much, but he wasn't it was still Spiderman's film. I also liked that they introduced Iron Man/Tony Stark into Spiderman/Peter Parker's life, as that had to be done and they way it was done, was a job well done for me. Loved Vulture he was just brilliant, the writing of him was fantastic loved that he had a real passionate hatred that was justified. The bit where Peter went to Homecoming with Liz and he met her dad who was the Vulture that was brilliant because again it took it back to being very Breakfast Club style. 

I'm gonna say it here, I'd love it if Micheal Keaton got an award for this role, like I'm talking a prestigious award because he really was brilliant and well done to the writers because from what I heard about the Vulture was that he was this old man, but Michael took this role and made it his own. I loved Ned and MJ at the beginning particularly with MJ I was abit sceptical as she wasn't in the comics and I just think 'did they give Zendaya that part, because she's Zendaya?'. I loved her, she played a part that so unique but I'm interested to see how her character develops, because I just assumed they casted her in this film because she's Zendaya, that's it but its not the case at all she really is good at acting. 

Jacob Batalon was just brilliant as Ned, he's such a good character especially for Peter Parker/Spiderman as in the past all his best friends have always seemed 'cool' like Harry, but Ned doesn't give off that 'I'm intelligent, cool and rich' vibe its just he's a funny, intelligent guy. One of my favourite scenes of the film was when Ned was helping Peter as Spiderman during Homecoming in the computer room and a teacher comes in and goes, 'What are you doing?' and I thought he was gonna say studying or something boring but he just comes out with 'looking at porn'. I tell you not the whole cinema was in tears of laughter, he's such a great character again I'm intrigued to see what's gonna happen with him in the future. 

I don't know about you guys, but I am so excited for the future of Spiderman because it looks brilliant. The difference I've seen with this Spiderman aswell is the fact that he has witt and is similar to the cartoons and again I love that. I needed to talk about this film on here because this blog wouldn't be Peppermint Friday if I didn't talk about Comic Book/Action films and this is one film I've been so so so excited for. Favourite Comic Book Characters #2

Because of Wonder Woman I'm back to being obsessed with Comic Book characters and all things DC and Marvel, plus most of these characters have their own TV shows. 

Wolverine

We're gonna start with Wolverine, I love him so much as a kid watching X-Men he was just really cool, and mainly the fact that he is this man who isn't like Superman where he wants to take care everyone, but a man who is incredibly flawed and we know he's a hero but the fact that he isn't a happy smiley hero a hero who's created in a lab it gives him an edge. Also the Wolverine that I know and everyone else knows so well is, Hugh Jackman I love what he did with Wolverine he completely reinvented the character and still kept it close to its roots and plus he's played Wolverine for just over 20 years and with his last Wolverine film out earlier this year Logan. I'm gonna miss Hugh Jackman but I'm excited for the next Actor to play Wolverine

Supergirl

Now this girl is so cool, oh god now I didn't really know who Supergirl was until this year and oh god she is amazing. Supergirl has only had one film unlike her cousin who's a man and he's pretty super too, yup its Superman. Honestly right Supergirl is giving him a run for his money, as yes she's only done one film but she hasn't made anything mediocre unlike Superman has, not to say he's a bad superhero its just people should know about his amazing cousin. She has her own TV Show and to be honest with you all if you wanna get to know Supergirl (which you totally should) you need to watch the TV Show as it's got Melissa Benoist in and its totally modernised and amazing. 

The Flash

I loved the Flash in Justice League when I was a kid he was so cheeky and funny particularly to Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl. In the TV Show The Flash, his and Supergirl's world combined and I love it. His character in the TV Show is still funny and witty but theres a real serious side to this man, and similar to Spiderman where he gets power on accident, and has to save Central City. I'm not sure why they got a different actor to play him in the new Justice League film as Grant Gustin who plays him in the TV Show is amazing, and I reckon the fans who watch The Flash might be abit sceptical towards Ezra Miller who's gonna play him, I'm sure he'd do a good job its just why have someone different when theres someone amazing already? you know.

Jessica Jones

This girl oh this girl, she is something Jessica Jones is agent who investigates in aliens and paranormal stuff, she used to be a Superhero but she still counts as this is called 'Favourite Comic Book Characters' but she is so badass. I mainly know about her in the Netflix Show Jessica Jones like most people do, but she is just so cool and Krysten Ritter who plays her is the coolest lady ever, plus Jessica Jones's boyfriend Luke Cage has his own TV Show aswell which I need to watch. Again with Wolverine she is a good guy but doesn't act like it which gives her a real edge and the fact that she doesn't walk around with a costume or looking like mutant, but a badass lady who takes no prisoners, plus she's very sassy and funny.

Favourite Comic Book Characters

So we're gonna talk about my favourite characters from Comicbooks, some are from DC Comics, and some are from Marvel. They're all either Villians, Superheros, Heroines and Sidekicks, but I like them for different reasons so lets begin.

Spider-man

I love Spider-man, as his origin story is brilliant, and relatable. He is one of the first Superheroes who is a teenager and we see that, he is the outcast as Peter Parker, who is a bit of a nerd, school photographer. Then he gets bit by a spider and turns into Spider-man! Although I do like that he started off with his powers being selfish, by just going 'oh I could make abit of money with this' but then he realises and I'm going to use to quote 'with great power comes great responsibility'. 

I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-man, as he just seems abit more cool and he is portrayed as the normal teenager, who skateboards and abit awkward. My first Spider-man I watched was Tobey Maguire, and at the time of a 6 or 7 year old I loved him, but now as someone who I'd like to say have watched a fair bit of films, I look back and I didn't like the actor of Tobey Maguire but I liked Spider-man, because he was just really cool and I loved his story, and the fact that it was portrayed by a not very good actor, didn't occur to me, but now I do care about who plays Spider-man.

Wonder Woman

I used to watch Wonder Woman as a kid when it was Justice League with Batman, Superman and various of DC Characters. She is a legend, I love her powers a particular favourite of mine because she can talk to animals, like that is so me. I love that she was everything I aspire to be, and still is I can't wait to see the new film next year! As I have the nostalgic image of Wonder Woman as a cartoon, I know thats bad. But I can't wait to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, I did watch Batman Vs Superman, and she had a brief appearance at the end, but this character needs a film. She's now an Ambassador for UN, and rightly so as she cares for everyone who isn't a Villian obviously. I even have her as my background on my phone!

She's knows what she wants, and goes for it I love her. I mean who doesn't? She's intelligent, sassy, but not all in your face about it. Her alter ego is amazing aswell, I think I like Diana Prince just as much as Wonder Woman herself. One thing that I adore with Wonder Woman is that she is a woman who is powerful but doesn't shove it in people's faces that she's a woman, she cares about the humanity of others, and animals.☺ Writing this post has actually made me wanna watch the Wonder Woman series with Lynda Carter, and watch the Justice League again.  

Batman

This is a weird one as I do love Batman but I don't, the reason I love him is that I love him as a Character, but I hate the fact that he doesn't really have superpowers, I feel like he's just a rich guy who wants to save the world, which I like because its a normal guy, well normal as such his alter-ego is Bruce Wayne who is a very intelligent man (as is Batman). But I mean Bruce Wayne has connections he's a top man. The one thing that's very nostaglic for me in Batman is obviously the Justice League when I was a young warthog. But also I used to watch on UKTVGOLD every morning before school with my dad was the 1960's Batman and Robin. 

Now the TV Show in the 60's was adorable to say the least, I mean it fitted so well in the 60s and I loved watching it before school. The dialogue was brilliant, despite it could have been seen as old-fashioned or whatever but I loved it, the show made me laugh, and enjoy it. Part of me misses Batman when he was like that, and didn't take himself seriously but another part of me loves that he's saving people and the whole of Gotham in a none cringey way if that makes sense. He doesn't dance anymore as far as I'm concerned, but it was amusing when he did.

The Joker

I know this post is majority of DC Characters, but this is the way its gone, I'm gonna be honest with you guys I wouldn't describe myself as a 'Comic Book kinda girl' if that makes sense, like I'm not a crazy fangirl but I love Heroes and Villians and all that, but I feel like its gonna be a new obsession of mine. Anyway, the Joker is one of if not the most iconic character in all of history, by each decade the Joker transforms and becomes more relevent to the film or the society we're in if that makes sense, even with the transformations he eludes he still remains the psychotic Villian of Batman. 

We all have favourite portrayals of the Joker, I love the 60s Joker played by Cesar Romero, I love Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, and Jared Leto. I don't think I have a favourite as it depends on what mood I'm in as again they're all completely different from each other but I love watching them. The Joker is a very complex character with a brilliant sense of humour, I do love the fact that he has a girlfriend, Harley Quinn who is just as psychotic as the Joker, as it makes him human because he feels love, but also he is so manipulative which is why he is so appealing. The amount of quotes this character has is amazing, and also he doesn't really have any powers which is terrifying as he is just an evil manipulative man who knows exactly how to push buttons and make devious plans.

I will no doubt do a number 2 of these as I have many more favourites as I waffle on and on and on. Bit of an update tomorrow I will be doing a film review as normal, but it won't be a new film not that thats a problem but it just costs money each week to go to the cinema. As I will be saving up for Christmas, and yes I will be doing a festive Christmas week this month just look forward to that!

Peppermint Friday Review #11: Doctor Strange

I felt that a superhero film was a long time coming, so we all know what this week will be about.

Doctor Strange was created by Marvel and Stan Lee, and this film is the origin story of the character, staring Benedict Cumberbatch. Its about a man called Doctor Stephen Strange who is a Doctor of medicine who ends up being in a car crash and losing the use of his hands. But he is determined he can heal his hands, he then goes into experimental surgeries, to put it short he became this supernatural human.

Doctor Strange then begins to learn his craft from his tutor called the Ancient One who is played by Tilda Swinton. Who is amazing, as originally the character of the Ancient One played by a man, but she does it so well, I can honestly say only she could of done it. I love Tilda Swinton anyway but she is amazing, I was scared of her as the white witch and loved her wise willowyness she bought to the character. Rachel McAdams plays Doctor Strange's ex girlfriend which was interesting for me, as it felt like Doctor Strange lived and just found the answers for him, which is also why I like him.

                               

I loved the beginning of the character, as this is a character that I knew nothing of before. I never read any of the comics, or watch TV Shows that this character was in. So for me this film and Doctor Strange was totally fresh to me, which is good as theres no pre-judgement I guess. What I really loved about this character was that he seemed abit of an Anti-Hero, because he is obliviously very clever and intelligent and he reminds me of a really clever guy who has all the questions but frustrated because he doesn't know the answer and that annoys him. That sounds horrible, but this is the beginning of Doctor Strange so he can be flawed which makes me like him as it makes him more of a human, because I guess when something happens to you and you don't know whats going on, you would get abit frustrated.

Benedict Cumberbatch is a fantastic man already, I think we all know that. He is brilliant in this films, and I think I love him even more after this film, and I know that there going to do a sequel and Benedict will be in it. I watch Benedict and I'm assuming we all know him as Sherlock, and Alan Turing, and just intelligent British people. So its nice to see him as an American, but still playing a clever man and looking completely different, like his little beardy thing still looks good, not many men can pull it off. 

This film is amazing, I just find so different and good. I have also found a new favorite hero, maybe its the magic but I love him he is amazing, I can't wait to see the sequels which I'm assuming this isn't the last we'll see of this character. So this week will be about Comicbook Heros! I will be talking about my favorite Comic Book heros/heroines, just everything I like about the Comic Book world.
